Quality, Experience, Value for Money The Young family have owned the Sewing Centre in Darlington for over 30 years, with the shop previously owned by the Singer Corporation themselves and managed by Joan Young Before she Bought the Business. It was established in 1922 previously on Tubwell Row then High Row before settling on Bondgate where we reside Today.
We only sell products that we personally use and believe in. Our commitment to quality and value for money is evidenced throughout our store, but particularly in our choice of sewing machines. Two different machines in the £100 bracket, for example, can vary wildly in terms of performance and durability.
We only stock sewing machines that we have put through their paces and found to perform well over a period of time. Similarly we won't sell you a pack of scissors that costs us 50p from a third-world factory, because odds are they will only end up ruining some perfectly good fabric.

Singer Sewing shop, Darlington

10 December 2012

I would never use this shop again for sewing machine repairs. My machine was took in at the end of December for a repair to be carried out. Was told engineer would be out to see it that same week. Telephoned at the end of the week and was told that a part had to be ordered and repair would be carried out within one week to one and a half weeks. Some three weeks later, my husband called into shop to see if my machine was ready, he was told that they were still waiting for part. They did contact the company concerned who said that they would get part to them by the Friday, my husband was then told that my machine would be fixed by the following Monday. My husband went to collect my machine on the Monday, surprise, surprise, it wasn't ready, he was told to call back in one hour. He called later on in the day, to find my machine in bits and was told by the young male in the shop that the owner 'had been called away, my husband was then told that the machine would be ready to collect on Wednesday. I telephoned the shop on the Wednesay and spoke to the young male in the shop, he told me that my machine had been repaired but they were waiting on it being put back together. I told him that I did not think this was acceptable and he said I had to appreciate, they were very busy as it was the christmas period, I pointed out that he had to appreciate we were initially told one to one and a half weeks and it is some six weeks later and I had Christmas ORders to complete, he said machine should be ready on the Thursday, it is now the following Monday and I am still waiting for my machine. I definitely would not recommend anybody using this shop for sewing machine repairs.
